Cardiogen

Also indexed as AEDR, Ala-Glu-Asp-Arg, H-Ala-Glu-Asp-Arg-OH, cardiogen tetrapeptide, one seller's trade name for the identical molecule

1 Identity

Short-chain bioregulators (Khavinson peptides). and CardioCytogen.

Sequence
H-Ala-Glu-Asp-Arg-OH (AEDR). Four residues, all L, free N-terminal alpha-amino group, free C-terminal carboxyl, no disulfide, no acylation, no amidation, no non-proteinogenic residue. Two basic centers — the N-terminal amine and the Arg4 guanidino side chain — against three carboxyls (Glu2 side chain, Asp3 side chain, C-terminal Arg). No aromatic residue and therefore no 280 nm chromophore. The strongly basic guanidino group makes this peptide bind counterion far more avidly than the non-basic members of its class, and it is routinely supplied as the trifluoroacetate unless a documented ion exchange has been performed. That same arginine side chain has to be protected during synthesis and carries an extra purification step, so the article costs more to produce than the non-basic tetrapeptides of the class.
Molecular formula
C18H31N7O9 (free acid)
Average mass
489.486 Da (C18H31N7O9) from the tetrapeptide composition; 489.49 is that same figure rounded.
Monoisotopic mass
489.2183 Da neutral. Working ions: [M+H]+ m/z 490.2256, [M+2H]2+ m/z 245.6164, [M-H]- m/z 488.2110. A plus or minus 5 ppm window on the neutral is plus or minus 0.0024 Da.
Salt / variant note
No transposed-ordering variant was found for this compound — unlike Bronchogen, where Khavinson's own group published ADEL against the market's AEDL, the AEDR ordering is consistent between the sellers and the published title. The live variance is in the trade name, not the sequence: the identical tetrapeptide is sold as "Cardiogen" by seven independent sellers and as "CardioCytogen" by an eighth, whose listing prints H-Ala-Glu-Asp-Arg-OH and carries "cardiogen" only in its page keywords — so a buyer comparing certificates across those two names is comparing one molecule under two labels. Sequence-permutation isomers (ADER, EADR and so on) are identical in formula and identical in exact mass and are excluded only by MS/MS or Edman. Analytical near-neighbors within the same series: KEDP (Prostamax) 487.510 avg / 487.22783 mono, minus 1.98 Da; Livagen KEDA 461.472 / 461.21218; AEDQ 461.428 / 461.17579; Testagen KEDG 447.445 / 447.19653; Bronchogen AEDL 446.457 / 446.20128; Cortagen AEDP 430.414 / 430.16998; Pinealon EDR 418.407 / 418.18121. Three of those articles are filled in the same facility as this one and sit within 60 Da of it, so the arithmetic separation between adjacent articles has to be visible on the certificate. Salt form is the other axis and matters more here than anywhere else in this class: free base 489.486, against a trifluoroacetate salt where the guanidino group and the N-terminal amine can together carry two moles of TFA — one mole of trifluoroacetic acid, C2HF3O2, is 114.023 average, so two moles is 228.05 Da of counterion, over 30 percent of the powder mass.

3 Primary sources & evidence

The index reports the design and provenance of the literature, not a conclusion about effect.

In-vitro and rodent literature, concentrated in the originating institute's publication network, with limited independent replication and a substantial fraction in Russian-language journals with restricted indexing. The compound-specific citation is PubMed 22977870, Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine 2012 (DOI 10.1007/s10517-012-1766-9), a cell-biology study. Group-level literature: PMID 12374906, PMID 31808038, PMID 11276315, PMID 23734519, PMID 24003726, PMID 32593244 — the last three being reviews by the originating group rather than primary randomized trials. No randomized controlled human trial and no ClinicalTrials.gov registration were identified. No marketing authorization in any jurisdiction. The class evidence is graded D.

4 Storage & specification

Storage
Lyophilized powder, -20 degrees C plus or minus 5 degrees C, desiccated, protected from light. 2 to 8 degrees C is acceptable for transit and for working stock held no longer than 30 days; shipping validation covers a 72-hour excursion to 25 degrees C. Sealed vials are equilibrated to room temperature before opening. The arginine salt form is hygroscopic and the water figure feeds directly into the net peptide claim, so the desiccant is a specification item. The presentations are a 100 mg vial and a 500 mg bulk vial.
Shelf life
Provisional 24 months at -20 degrees C plus or minus 5 degrees C, pending the company's own long-term and accelerated stability data on the first three lots, with water content and residual trifluoroacetate as the attributes to trend rather than gross purity — on a 489 Da all-L tetrapeptide with no labile motif, neither the backbone nor the mass will move before the net peptide figure does.
