Failed lots

A ledger that shows only passes is a catalog, not a record. This page holds the lots that failed testing, in the same columns and at the same detail as the lots that passed. Nothing here is worded differently because the result was bad.

What a failure row carries

The same columns as the lot ledger, plus the failure record, which carries three things. The measured number, printed beside the published specification it missed — not the word “failed,” the number, so you can see what was measured and what was required. The failed point — which of the fourteen tests of the testing standard the lot missed. And the disposition: the material was destroyed, and the destruction is recorded with its date.

Failure in this ledger is arithmetic, not judgment: a number fell outside the published range, so the lot did not release. A failed lot is not reworked, not retested until a passing number appears, and not sold at a reduced price. It is destroyed, and the row is what remains. The certificate column works here exactly as it does for a released lot: the link resolves to the testing laboratory’s own domain. There is no separate vocabulary for this page; you read a failure row the same way you read a release row.

Why this page exists

Every numeric specification is published before the lot that will be judged against it exists, which means a lot can miss it. This page is that possibility kept honest — a specification that no lot could fail would not be a standard, and a ledger that could not show a failure would not be a record.

Rows on this page are permanent. If the page is empty when you read it, that is the state of the record as of today, not a promise about tomorrow.
